Born and living in Turkey till he was twenty-two, when he completed his national service he came to England for his marriage, arranged previously, to a wife of Turkish origin but a british citizen, a marriage which eight years later is not functioning. His daughter had gone back to Turkey. His wife left him in 1992 whilst he was visiting his family in Turkey.

First diagnosed confidently as having the illness schizophrenia in 1990, when he was admitted to a local mental illness Unit after his family doctor noted he felt his cigarettes "were poisoned by wife and girl friend". He then continued medication and attended at out-patients,seeing various doctors, until a final out-patient note, a year later, says .. " as this is the first episode of paranoid psychosis he may reduce his medication and then discontinue it - and then review ". FM did not go to his next out-patient appointment.

During the next four years he remains irregularly in some connection with the in-patient and community services - often presenting himself. He is considered pleasant but remains variably ill with symptoms of his illness, partly subdued by medication.

After one in-patient stay, his illness subsided within ten days on regular medication .

He is then reinstated in the community on a depot regime of monthly injections. It is noted that his illness shows itself just before the depot injection is due.

An attempt is made to adjust the frequency of the dosage upwards but this is only achieved shortly before the tragedy. During the business contract with a prostitute he misbelieves she is acting for a secret service, and stabs her.
